Topic Born to Be Stars Message Board / Dropping of Tom Brady on W/W. (54 hits)

Running Rebels Date Fri Nov 7 4:16:23 p.m. ET 2008 Edited Fri Nov 7 4:22:16 p.m. ET 2008
I decided that I needed to make some sort of long & short term roster strategy move, and personally believe that Tom Brady has no where to go but down - in terms of future performance based upon all the problems he has experienced with his knee situation (and not to mention his other ailments and the state of the PATS running game or lack thereof, and the history of losing SB teams over the recent past seasons.) I don't think that Tom Brady will be able to get back to anything even close to his Super Bowl years' performances, and want to look forward to my team's future in this dynasty league. When Doombringer mentioned someone getting lucky, I thought that he was referrring to my getting Brady near the tail end of the draft's 2nd round. But, now I think he was talking about himself picking up Brady. Well only time will tell, and I didn't want to guess as to when he might return to a 50% shadow of his former self and would merit a match-up start at QB.

Yes, I could have attempted to trade him for some sort of player package from another owner, but didn't want to potentially make a lifetime enemy if Tom somehow decided to marry Giselle and become a home hubby. Yes, he may attempt a comeback with the intention of proving to himself and the world that he can still throw touchdowns and win - but he also could go down again in his first game back and then decide he better limp off into the sunset while he can. Yes, Kurt Warner is playing very productively at the age of 39, but he is the exception not the rule BUT he hasn't undergone what Brady has to-date.

So I decided to take a shot and not base my team's future on the hope that TB comes back and leads the team (Patriots and/or Running Rebels) to a Super Bowl. Now you guys can all post your pro or con comments under this thread if you so desire.

PS - As you can see from the league standings, I've managed to post a winning record this season without the services of Tom Brady, and want to look down the road in Born To Be Stars and enjoy the comradeship of competiton and trash talk whether I do so with Brady or whomever I think will be an asset to the team. I've never had the luxury of a superstar QB in the past, and just look at how this year has gone for QBs and RBs and WRs in terms of injuries. Just look at the Broncos and I bet you can't tell me who'll be their leading ball-carrier for the balance of this or next season!

Look at it this way:

Would ANYONE in their right mind TRADE Tom Brady for Thigpen?  Right now, today, knowing what we know.

No, not in a million years, the trade would be vetoed in 100% of the leagues that actually vote on things like that.

You are right that their is not a 'no cut list' but this is totally unacceptable.

You are carrying 2 kickers, 2 defenses and other great players such as Kerry Collins, Gus Frerotte, Fred Jackson and Justin Gage.  There is no believable explanation that Brady was your least valuable and most expendable player on your roster.

This needs to be put to a league vote immediately.  This is no different than a questionable trade between two teams.  You should be allowed to keep Thigpen regardless of the outcome, but the vote should decide if you need to drop any of the above listed BUMS and not one of the top 3 dynasty league QBs.

Put him up for trade - I guarantee you will do better than Thigpen.

There is no upside to dropping Brady.  Legion of Trouble has pretty summed it all up, you have guys that really have no upside at all WHEN HEALTHY.  An ACL tear is not the same for a QB as it is with a RB or any other skill position.  It's not like Kerry Collins tore his ACL, that's an easy drop.  This is arguably the best QB in the league, his name alone would still have value in a trade.

Anyways, I will put this to a vote, see what people think.

This is a good discussion...and I want to say at the outset that I donot believe that Ace is pulling a fast one on us...I trust in his integrity and commitment to the league.

Having said that, I would have been quite happy to have participated in a trade with Aceroo in order to nab Brady and store him on my practice team roster.

I can see dropping Brady if you are in the league for the short term...but for the long term, even if Tom Terrific doesn't ever ascend to his previous pinnacle, he is still a valuable keeper for the future...

I suggest that if the league desires to control this activity, we might consider to use the ESPN Fantasy Football No Drop List...while this isn't a perfect answer, it is a good first step.  Combine it with a league poll in situations that are not blocked by the No Drop list and you have a pretty good safeguard.

I recommend that Ace's drop be reversed and Ace be forced to trade Brady to me.

Commish (and all other owners) - I will abide by whatever decision is made either by polling or by decree. I didn't intentionally make the add/drop to cause this type of situation, but maybe it will work out for the better when it is resolved, more so for the future than the present season.

It has been an interesting/learning year for all of us, and I really believe that Mr. Hand utilized his Tom Brady "doll" and package of needles/pins to put Brady down and take him away from the Rebels team this inaugural season. Just wait until the Rebels "meet and greet" his squad on the field of combat (again).

Two, four, six, eight - who do we appreciate? All of those who stood up to perform as co-commissioners this challenging initial season for the BTBS Dynasty League.

the vote on the dropping of Tom Brady should have to be unanimous minus myself and ace if he votes.
