Tanking has been a bit of a problem in this league with Code Blue starting players on IR and Lumpy starting inactive players.  There's a thread on FBG that suggests ordering the bottom 4 teams by potential points:

I would take that a step further and order all non-playoff teams by potential points.  In that way, you take tanking out of the equation.

What do you guys think?

I think both these owners were asked to take on teams that were really bad to begin with... I don't believe they are tanking.

Code Blue has been starting an IR'ed Lawrence Moroney in place of Adrian Peterson since week 7.  If that's not tanking I don't know what tanking is.

Its called giving up....

I can only speak for myself on this one, but rest assured I am not tanking.  First and foremost, my team sucks ass!  I can see now why the previous commish bailed out... He had a crappy team.  I definitely see promise for my team and need to ride it our.

I think I know what it is like being part of the Detroit Lions and having a GM that doesn't know what the hell he was doing.

To DeMario's point, I don't have a problem with the idea.  I think another number to look at is the teams Efficiency rating on a week to week basis.

It's definitely a great discussion topic.  However, I would ask that you put yourselves in my shoes for a second.

Finally, to the owners that have sent me totally bogus trade offers, please stop!  First, if I were as stupid as you think I am and accepted the trade, the league would vote it down. (McFadden and Moss for a second round pick next year is not quite fair)  Secondly, the only chance I have of building my team into a competitive team is thru the draft.  Trades would be great if I actually had depth at a position and could give something up.  FA' would have been a great option, but up until about a month ago, I didn't know how it worked.  Ironman 790 was kind enough to explain it to me, but by that time, the damage was already done.

Just my thoughts... but please know that I am not tanking.  If I were, I wouldn't log on every day, wouldn't respond to trades, good or bad and wouldn't set lineups on a weekly basis, etc.

I'm glad you're on board Ironman.

Lumpy, I understand that you inherited a bad team.  But, one week (I can't remember which) you were starting 2 inactive players.  I understand that you need a good draft position in order to improve a team that you didn't draft, but tanking games (and I'm not saying you did it purposefully) compromises the intergrity of the league; you can cost deserving teams playoff spots and underservedly move up draft positions.  It's simply not fair to anyone.

And the efficiency rating works off of potential points, so either way it is the same tactic.  I think that's the fairest way to determine draft order, especially when you have guys like Code Blue blatantly tanking games for several weeks in a row.

I'm cool with it.

I've been thinking about this for some time now and I think for this year we should just stay as is.  But for the future I definitely would like to implement something to prevent tanking, such as a "toilet bowl" where the teams out of the playoffs would play for draft position, thus preventing tanking.

I actually read that thread on FBG and I like the idea you've brought up about efficiency scoring etc., but I think we could talk more about it during the offseason.  I was in a dynasty league for a few years that in my opinion had a great system that as I mentioned above, was basically a playoff for draft position.  Basically, it would work out where the worst team in the league automatically gets the first pick.  After that, everyone is playing for a better pick.  For example, if we were doing it this year, Lumpy's Crew would have the #1 pick, and Code Blue would have a bye til week 16 where he would basically be playing for the #2 pick (loser receiving the #3 pick).

I'm jumping ahead a little bit.  How it works is that week 14 there's a draft bracket playoff that goes on right along with our normal playoffs.  That week the 7th and 10th ranked teams in the league faceoff while the 8th and 9th teams do the same.  The winners of these 2 games will face each other in week 15 for the right to play the 11th ranked team in week 16 where as I mentioned above, the winner receives the #2 pick in the draft while the loser receives the #3 pick.  The loser of the week 15 game gets the #4 pick.  Also, the 2 losers of the week 14 game play in week 15 where the winner gets the #5 pick and loser gets the #6 pick.

Now, I know this sounds complicated and stuff, it's a lot harder to explain than it really is.  I have a bracket still from my former dynasty league that can show how it would look like a lot better.

I'll try to get a picture of it to show what it would look like.  Let me know what you think guys.  Peace.
